Dr. Skelley is a board-certified dermatologist and fellowship-trained skin cancer specialist. He is the only fellowship-trained Mohs Surgeon in Helena and one of only a few fellowship-trained Mohs Surgeons in the state of Montana. While a surgical and skin cancer specialist, he thoroughly enjoys practicing general medical dermatology as well. Dr. Skelley also treats eczema, psoriasis, autoimmune conditions, nail disorders and a variety of cosmetic skin conditions.

Dr. Skelley completed his residency and fellowship training at the prestigious Mayo Clinic Department of Dermatology in Rochester, MN. While at the Mayo Clinic, he was trained by some of the best pediatric, general, and surgical dermatology experts in the world.
After finishing his formal training in 2019, Dr. Skelley moved to Helena and practiced general and surgical dermatology for 2 years, prior to starting Guardian Dermatology, P.C. To date, he has performed thousands of Mohs surgeries and reconstructions for skin cancer. His average number of tissue layers needed to clear a head and neck skin cancer with Mohs Surgery is 1.2 layers. This places him in the top 3% of all Mohs Surgeons in the country in terms of tumor clearance rate.
Originally from Missouri, Dr. Skelley was drawn to the mountains at an early age during several climbing trips as a Boy Scout, and eventually, as an Eagle Scout. He enjoys hiking, biking, and kayaking with his wife, Janey, during his free time. He is also an avid tennis player and a member at the Last Chance Tennis Center.

Dr. Skelley has authored several books (The Diagnosis Danger, The Dermatological Emergency Reference Manual), book chapters (Selected Bacterial Infections – Dermatology for the USMLE), various essays – The Other Side), and several peer-reviewed scientific articles, including dermatologic research publications in the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology and Dermatologic Surgery.
Originally from Minnesota, Janey is a graduate of Gustavus Adolphus College. She is an avid athlete, and while in college, she was on both the volleyball and track teams. During her senior year, in 2011, she won the NCAA Division III National Title in the Heptathlon. She received her Master of Physician Assistant Studies from St. Catherine University in St. Paul, MN and started her physician assistant career in 2017 at the Mayo Clinic Department of Dermatology in Rochester, MN.
While at Mayo Clinic, Janey was exposed to world-class training and an extreme breadth of cutaneous disorders. She is passionate about skin health and advocates strongly for sun protective measures. Janey truly appreciates the opportunity to connect with patients on a deeper level and enjoys building long-standing relationships. She enjoys treating patients of all ages with a wide range of skin conditions. She has an interest in skin cancer surveillance, acne, eczema, psoriasis, and warts. She works closely with Dr. Skelley to provide comprehensive medical dermatologic care for patients.
Janey enjoys spending her free time with her husband, and they sincerely appreciate all the beauty and outdoor activities Montana has to offer. She enjoys trail running with the Helena Vigilante Runners, hiking, biking, playing volleyball and spending time with family and friends.

Originally from Billings, Kasie is a graduate of Montana State University Billings where she played basketball and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Health and Human Performance. She completed her Master of Physician Assistant Studies from one of the top programs in the nation at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska in 2020. She is passionate about skin health and works closely with Dr. Skelley to provide comprehensive medical dermatologic care for patients. Kasie has an interest in eczema, psoriasis, warts, acne, and cosmetic dermatology. She enjoys caring for patients of all ages. She emphasizes the importance of individualized patient care with evidence-based medicine, and takes pride in creating relationships that will make a lasting impact on patient’s lives, improving their quality of life.
Kasie is excited to be back home, as she missed Montana outdoor opportunities while in the Midwest for school and the start of her PA career. She enjoys outdoor activities such as hiking, fishing, backpacking, kayaking, and whitewater rafting. She is therefore very passionate about educating and caring for other outdoor enthusiasts’ dermatologic needs. Kasie enjoys spending time with her husband, dog, family, and friends.

Originally from Helena, Makenzie is a graduate of Montana State University Bozeman
where she was a member and captain of the cheer team. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Biology with an Education Endorsement. She completed her Master of Physician Assistant Studies from Rocky Mountain College in Billings, MT in 2021. As a Helena
native, she has an innate desire to return to the area and give back to a community that led to her success with excellent dermatologic care. Makenzie has an interest in acne, eczema, psoriasis, warts, skin cancer surveillance and cosmetic dermatology. She
works closely with Dr. Skelley to provide comprehensive medical dermatologic care for patients.
Makenzie is ecstatic to return to her hometown. She enjoys all of the activities
of the great outdoors particularly camping, hiking and fly fishing. Saturdays you can catch her cheering on the MSU Bobcats with her husband and spending time with her dog, family and friends.
