Keloid Scar Treatment

A keloid is a particular kind of scar that results from the overgrowth of scar tissue over the original wound. It can appear on any part of the body, but it most commonly affects the head, earlobes, neck, shoulders, and upper chest. These types of scars are generally benign and appear as hard, rubbery growths that protrude from the skin. There are many treatments that can improve and reduce the appearance of keloid scars, such as surgical removal, corticosteroid injections, the topical application of corticosteroid tape, cryotherapy with liquid nitrogen, and therapy by an energy-based device.

Rhinophyma Correction

Rhinophyma is a skin disorder that can be recognized by  its disfiguring effects on the nose and face. The nose appears inflamed and enlarged, caused by an overgrowth of thickened skin, dilated blood vessels and pores, and a preponderance of red bumps or pustules. It is thought that Rhinophyma is the result of untreated rosacea, a chronic inflammatory skin disease that affects the face. Rhinophyma can be effectively corrected through various surgical techniques. With timely treatment, excessive tissue growth is removed, swollen blood vessels are diminished, and the nose’s original shape and appearance is restored.

Traumatic Scars

Traumatic scars are highly visible scars that develop when the skin recovers from a serious or extensive injury. These types of scars continue to affect patients physically, emotionally, and socially long after the original wound has healed. We offer many treatments to improve and diminish the appearance of traumatic scars, such as topical and injectable corticosteroids, injected chemotherapeutic medication, cryotherapy, outside irradiation, and surgery. Certain kinds of traumatic scars can also be treated effectively with soft tissue fillers and laser therapy.

Acne Scars

Acne scars can leave a negative impact on your appearance and confidence, even long after the acne has healed. Fortunately, acne scarring can be significantly improved and minimized with appropriate treatment. We provide several treatment options for acne scars, including corticosteroid injections, chemical peels, CROSS treatment, cryotherapy, therapy by an energy-based device, such as laser, surgical excision, and various other treatment modalities.

Earlobe Reconstruction

Gauges or torn earlobes from earrings

We perform earlobe reconstruction surgery, which aims to restore the ear’s original appearance by repairing the tissue damage caused by gauges, earrings, and accidents.

Facial Reconstruction

After skin cancer treatment

Dr. Skelley performs facial reconstruction for patients who are in the process of recovering from surgical procedures for skin cancer and other medical conditions of the skin. He has extensive expertise on the following reconstruction techniques: judicious use of second intent healing, primary intermediate and complex closure, local flap repair, and skin graft repair. Dr. Skelley works with each patient to determine their unique goals in terms of function and ultimate cosmesis when determining the best reconstructive approach.

Primary closure refers to the common method of repairing an incision or wound with traditional or dissolvable stitches, which produces minimal scarring. Secondary intent repair is when a wound is allowed to heal on its own without stitches. This method is used strategically on certain areas of the face and body. Local flap repair involves moving healthy tissue adjacent to the wound site into the wound to close and repair the wound. Skin grafts involve taking skin from another part of the body  and transplanting it to cover the site of a wound.
